When you head to a (virtual) room for some (remote) networking, what is your ‘elevator pitch’? What is that sentence that makes you stand out as a writer?
As the new year has just started, I thought I’d welcome us back to a brand new piece of the Brave Marketer by going back to the basis, and have a closer look at who you are as a writer.
We all heard the importance of developing a clear mission statement, elevator pitch, and angle for your ‘persona’.
It’s a great exercise and something that can truly help you reflect more on who you are and getting clear on your USP: what the advantage or solution your writing offers to your audience. …
Marketing can learn a lot from the world of advertising. In a way, both disciplines often work together to create something unique and spectacular.
Marketing and advertising combine two key skills: creativity and strategy. Yet, to think creatively, we must be able to take a fresh look at what we normally take for granted.
As someone who mainly watches ads to get inspired by unique and captivating marketing messages, one recently stood out for me. Ryan Reynolds’ latest ad for Match.com is such a perfect representation of where marketing and business are headed in 2021 and beyond.
In its most recent effort, Ryan Reynolds (I am assuming this man does not need further introductions) and his advertising agency Maximum Effort Productions reminded us that winning at marketing sometimes requires going where most people are not willing to go. …
On Monday morning, as I was storming away through my tasks, a notification pinged on my phone. It was a business buddy asking me whether we should set up a room on Clubhouse and if I could invite her on the app.
Sadly, I am not yet part of the hottest private club of 2021. But her request was serendipitous since I was researching this very article.
In a relatively short space of time, Clubhouse has been growing rapidly, with many online business owners and personalities getting very excited about it.
Wait a minute Fab, what is Clubhouse?
Pardon me, dear reader, let me explain: Clubhouse App is an audio-only platform built and backed by tech investors. Since May 2020, this application has grown exponentially. …
Blue Monday is more than just a hashtag — it’s the result of an actual formula thought up by a psychologist.
Dr. Cliff Arnall coined the term Blue Monday through a very specific formula that takes into account variables such as weather conditions, debt, the end of Christmas, failed resolutions and general low motivation levels. He has since confessed that the formula is essentially pseudoscience. You could say that this is total BS (I mean, even he admits he has gone too far), however, this is a great reminder of the idea of reframing inner beliefs.
Mondays (including Blue Monday) could be the reset button we need to get one step closer to one goal. For many people, finding motivation every week is an ongoing challenge. Risking to sound corny here, but every day we wake up is an opportunity to do what we did not do before. It is a day to tackle with awe and curiosity for what’s next. …
MySpace kids, LiveJournal bloggers, I am talking to you today. Do you remember those days when you’d write about your highlights from the past week or month, or reflect on your life and what you have learned?
I appreciate that these days readers want to get inspired, want to learn something practical and tangible. If you are looking for something of that ilk in this piece, dear reader, you may want to look over at my backlog.
Today, I am just going to reflect on a few relatively tough weeks, the lessons they brought with them, and how I’ve been able to adapt. …
Should you hustle, or should you hibernate? Why is New Year slap bang in the middle of our hibernation, resting season? I know most of us are still hard-wired into…
As it’s natural, at this time of the year, to look back at some of the highlights that truly stand out, I thought I’d do the same for some of my top pieces on Medium.
I truly gave a lot of energy to this platform over the past year, and do not regret any of that.
For one, it has made me a better writer. It also challenged me to start new things (such as a new business, a few columns).
Overall, it also has taught me a lot about the fine balance between writing for myself and for the audience. Optimising my talents and strengths, whilst also keeping creativity and fun in the picture — such a hard one to balance. …
I have never been the biggest fan of New Year resolutions, purely due to the short lifespan they seem to hold.
Research by Strava recently found that in 2020, Sunday 19th January is the day when most people will give up on their resolutions.
In another research, HelloFresh discovered 40% of New Year’s Resolutions have already failed by this point, despite our best intentions.
There are quite a few ways you can go about planning your new year and setting meaningful intentions, and one of them is known as the Wheel of Life® (or Life Wheel).
The original concept of The Wheel of Life is attributed to the late Paul J. Meyer who founded the Success Motivation® Institute in 1960 and created an array of programs and tools for leaders worldwide. …

Picture the infamous Boxing Day ‘horizontal marathon’.
No, you naughty thing, not that kind of marathon. On December 26th, we opened our living room sofa bed and watched an array of Disney-related bonanza — feeding ourselves purely from leftovers.
It’s that not-so-unspoken rule of Boxing Day after all, and traditions do make the world go round. As we were browsing and deciding over the next film for our marathon, we came across the latest Pixar movie, Soul, and we decided to give it a go.
The protagonist is Joe, a middle-school band teacher whose life hasn’t quite gone the way he expected. His true passion is jazz, and he is still waiting for his big break. …
To post or not to post (over the holidays) that is the question. This might be a question that a lot of people are asking themselves, however, marketers are the ones who have to face this dilemma.
Whether is for their personal brand, or a company they work with, it can be hard to know what would be best strategy-wise. Stop thinking about what is best for strategy and start thinking about what is best for yourself as a human. …
